rFactor AIW Converter

Postby Frentzen127 » Mon Aug 22, 2011 4:54 pm

So yesterday I decided to pull my finger out and do a 'converter' for AIW files. It essentially modifies automatically the rF AIW file to make it compatible to F1C.
I thought this might be of interest to you guys, even if you do now work with F1C anymore, it might be of use to anybody who visits this site. Inspired by Arioch's post 3 years ago at race simulations, I thought he might as well like to give it a shot.

This is a very simple program to do conversions of the rFactor AIW files to the F1 Challenge specification format.
Whilst largely compatible and interchangeable, there are a couple of modifications that are necessary to make the rFactor AIW fully functional in F1C. They are fully explained in this post by Arioch in January 2008 here:

Just an advice for people who converts tracks from rFactor to F1C. There are two known bugs:

1- The wet line is wrong. Well, actually is not the wet line, is the race line that appears after raining when the asphalt begins to dry. The people who made the original tracks for rFactor doesn't consider the wet condition because rFactor has no rain. In order to solve this, you have to change the path line in every waypoint of the AIW:

Original: wp_path=(.1655,0.0000)

Tweaked for F1C: wp_path=(.1655,.1655)

2- The AI cars doesn't reduce properly the speed when they go into the pit lane. The AI cars brake when they've crossed the white line. This happens beacuse rFactor doesn't have the event waypoint order, wich enables a waypoint by waypoint speed adjust. It's normally used for the slow to pit lane speed special event.

In order to solve that, you have to add this line two or three waypoints before the white lane of the pit:

Ok, that's all. I've solved all the bugs in Turkey and Fuji (Ethone) conversions. Even for Turkey circuit, I've remade some turns for a good behaviour from the AI (turns 7 and 9). If you want these AIW files let me know.

What this program does is exactly that. It automatically reads and makes the wp_path information equal on both sides of the comma to match the dry and wet F1C routs in the AIW. It also adds the event tag on pit entry via mathematical methods. Please note that these still need polishing, so it is very likely that unsatisfactory results may arise.

To run this program, you'll need the Java SE6/7 JRE, available here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... index.html

This should allow you to run executable .jar files without issue.

Feedback would be very appreciated.

I hope the moderators do not mind me linking all of this stuff, if I am unwittingly breaking any forum rules, please let me know and I'll remove them as soon as possible.
